Juventus set Nico Gonzalez price at €28m, scare off Atletico Madrid

Nico Gonzalez impressed on loan with Atletico Madrid, but Juventus have reportedly warned he cannot make the move permanent for less than €28m.

The 28-year-old is currently preparing for the World Cup quarter-final with Argentina against Switzerland, having made 55 senior appearances for his country with six goals.

His future remains up in the air, as he was loaned out to Atletico Madrid last season for just under €2m and is eager to remain after five goals in 37 games.

However, Tuttosport insist that Juventus and specifically coach Luciano Spalletti would more than welcome the Argentine back to Turin in the summer.

With that in mind, the asking price is not going to drop below €28m, which might be beyond Diego Simeone’s valuation.

There was a potential obligation to buy for €32m, but that was not triggered.

The negotiations have dried up and it is increasingly likely that Nico Gonzalez will be part of the Juventus squad this term.

He was purchased from Fiorentina for a total of €36.5m plus add-ons, arriving on loan in 2024 with obligation to make it permanent, and the contract runs to June 2029.

Nico Gonzalez had been pushed out by previous coach Igor Tudor, but when he was sacked and replaced by Spalletti, their approach changed.

The difficulties of players like Edon Zhegrova and Lois Openda to deliver in wide areas leaves room for Nico Gonzalez to make his mark for the Bianconeri.
