Juventus shy away: Kim transfer threatens to fail due to costs

Min-jae Kim is still considered one of the candidates for a possible departure from FC Bayern in the summer. Juventus Turin in particular have recently been heavily linked with the South Korean centre-back. But although the sporting side of things certainly fits the bill, a transfer currently seems to be failing due to the financial framework conditions

The future of Min-jae Kim remains one of the most exciting personnel issues at FC Bayern. The 29-year-old has been linked with various European clubs for weeks now, after the Munich-based club has shown itself to be open to talks about a possible transfer

Juventus Turin, in particular, have recently been considered a serious interested party, which is hardly surprising given that Luciano Spalletti, the coach under whom Kim once won the Italian league title at SSC Napoli, is on the bench at the Bianconeri. The former Italian national team coach appreciates the qualities of the central defender and is said to have identified the Bayern professional as a preferred candidate for the defense

At first glance, the conditions for a transfer appear to be in place, but the reality is much more complicated

Juventus are struggling with the financial framework conditions

As transfer expert Matteo Moretto reports, a move to Turin is currently seen as extremely difficult internally. The main reason for this is the financial requirements of a potential deal

FC Bayern are said to be willing to talk about a transfer fee of around 30 million euros, but the South Korean’s salary, which reportedly amounts to around 15 million euros per year, is another factor

This is where the problem for Juventus begins

The Bianconeri failed to qualify for the Champions League last season and have to plan their spending carefully accordingly. At the same time, there are needs in several positions, which is why those responsible have to weigh up every major transfer carefully

Under these circumstances, a complete package for Kim currently seems difficult to realize

Despite the difficult starting position, a transfer is not yet completely out of the question, although the framework conditions would have to change significantly

One possibility would be for FC Bayern to make concessions on the transfer fee or for Kim himself to make concessions on his salary expectations. Alternatively, Juventus could first generate additional funds through their own sales and then try again

At present, however, there is little to suggest that a quick solution is imminent

In addition, there is another important factor: FC Bayern is by no means in a predicament. Although the Munich club would consider selling the central defender if a suitable offer came in, his departure is not an absolute prerequisite for the current squad planning

Kim himself has also not publicly indicated any intention to move, and according to sources close to him, the defender continues to feel comfortable both in Munich and within the team

In addition to Juventus, other Italian clubs are also said to be keeping a close eye on the situation. However, almost all Serie A clubs are facing a similar problem. The combination of transfer fee and salary makes Kim a costly personnel matter that only a few clubs can currently afford

This means that the South Korean’s future remains open for the time being. However, one thing is clear: if Juventus really want to go ahead with the transfer, they will first have to find a financial solution. Otherwise, Min-jae Kim will probably continue to wear the FC Bayern shirt next season.
