Victor Osimhen admitted before the first leg of the UEFA Champions League playoffs that Juventus wanted to sign him in the past, but Napoli did everything in their power to prevent such a transfer. He added that he had an excellent rapport with Luciano Spalletti, speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Despite that and the fact that the Bianconeri will likely be looking for an elite striker in the summer, the Nigerian star is basically an unreachable target, Calciomercato reports. Aside from the fact that he’s comfortable in Turkey, the cost of the deal would be mammoth. Moreover, Partenopei made sure he wouldn’t return to Italy in short order with a poison pill.
Galatasaray are prohibited from selling Osimhen to Juventus or any other Serie A teams; otherwise, they’d have to pay a hefty penalty to Napoli. The Azzurri agreed to reduce the marksman’s release clause at the time also in exchange for the fact that he wouldn’t head back to the Peninsula soon.
In addition, the Turkish side made a giant investment, shelling out a €75M fee, and he has €15M wages, plus he handles most of his image rights. His price tag hasn’t decreased, as he’s having another fine season. He has notched 15 goals and 5 assists in 23 appearances across all competitions, missing time because of AFCON and some minor injuries.
Given the figures of his previous move, and the fact that he didn’t transfer to a far-away league or to a feeder team, the clause is superfluous. He’s already way too expensive for any Italian outfit, even though he’d be just what the doctor ordered for the Old Lady, and there are some ties in place.
