PSG forward Kadidiatou Diani (27) have given an exclusive wide-ranging interview to TF1 following her decision to withdraw from France’s national team. Diani, as well as PSG star striker Marie-Antoinette Katoto (24) have followed in the footsteps of centre-back and skipper Wendie Renard (32), who first announced she would be stepping back from international duties amid a rift between large parts of the squad and manager Corinne Diacre, whose turbulent six-year reign is now coming to a head.
Speaking about her relationship with Diacre, Diani believes they have “reached the point of no return” and said that Les Bleues’ manager and her have not talked to each other after Diani’s decision to step down. According to the PSG forward, “it is important to bring something new because the girls can’t take it anymore” in a damning assessment of Diacre’s management. Diani is calling for the French FA to take measures for the situation to change now as several players have already issued an call for change and made their feelings known.
Diani has explained the reasons why several Les Bleues want to ring in changes. The PSG forward have pointed to a lack of professionnalism within the French national team and a limited staff. “We have no assistant coach and no specific coach for strikers. Sometimes, I’d like to work in front of goal.“
Diani have also revealed the curious way in which the medical wing was run in the France’s national team. “At the beginning [of Diacre’s management of France in 2017], access to medical care was nearly forbidden. It’s true. You had to be really injured to be allowed a massage or a regular care program like in our club. We believe it’s not normal, this is the French team we’re talking about.“
It is expected that Diacre will be dismissed from her position at next week’s French FA executive board meeting, with current PSG coach Gérard Prêcheur the favourite to take over ahead of the World Cup this summer, according to Canal+.
