Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Wedson Nyirenda has advised the club to retain co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef for the second round of the season.

The pair was tasked with overseeing proceedings for the remainder of the season following the exit of head coach Nasreddine Nabi in October - an appointment met with mixed reactions.

Kaze and Ben Youssef have come under scrutiny for the team's inconsistent results both on the domestic and continental stage.

Now, Nyirenda, who won the Telkom Knockout title with Baroka FC at the expense of Orlando Pirates in 2018, has advocated for the coaches to remain in charge, citing continuity.

“I think Chiefs should go with continuity for this season. Let the guys who are with the team end the season with the boys,” he told Foot Africa.

Though the Zambian mentor has tipped Chiefs to stick with Kaze and Ben Youssef, he is not against the club appointing a new coach should push come to shove.

“But I can't rule out the changing of the bench as long as the one coming in is credible and will balance what is in ground with the job ahead,” Nyirenda added.

"Preferably a high pedigree coach with a good track record and more importantly having a good spirit for the environment and atmosphere for the players especially.

Chiefs sit fourth in the Betway Premiership table and are in third place in their CAF Confederation Cup group, having lost and drawn against Egyptian sides Al Masry SC and Zamalek SC, respectively.
