Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has shed light on the reason why it took long for Nkanyiso Shinga to make his debut for the club.

The 25-year-old left-back signed for the Soweto giants at the beginning of the season from Portuguese topflight outfit Alverca.

Shinga, however, recently donned the famous Black and Gold jersey in an official match in the Betway Premiership defeat to Richards Bay on Tuesday.

Kaze says the player's debut was delayed due to adaptation to South African football and integration into the squad, having spent most of his career in Europe, Portugal.

“He's a new player into the country, he's a player that has not played in the PSL ever. He needed to train well first to get used to the league, to get used to his partners too. But I thought that it was the right moment to introduce him,” he said.

The former South Africa youth international was unfortunately forced off through an injury against the Natal RichBoyz, with the Chiefs mentor confirming assessment are set to follow.

“I haven't spoken to the medical staff, we're going to assess him tonight [Tuesday] and tomorrow morning and see what the extent of the injury is,” Kaze added.

Meanwhile, Chiefs will be looking to snap a four-game winless run across all competitions when they face Durban City at FNB Stadium on Sunday, 15 March.
