Kalidou Koulibaly has received a one-match suspension following his red card in Senegal’s 3-0 win over Benin at the Africa Cup of Nations. Head coach Pape Thiaw said the captain will miss the round of 16 against Sudan on Saturday at 17:00.

The centre-back was dismissed on Tuesday in the final group game for a heavy studs-up challenge on Lorient’s Aiyegun Tosin.

Koulibaly, 34, has 100 caps for Senegal and wears the armband.

The ban covers only the last-16 tie, so he would be available for a quarter-final if Senegal progress.

It amounts to a relatively lenient punishment.
