Kalvin Phillips has joined Championship side Sheffield United on loan from Manchester City until the end of the season, the clubs said in statements shortly after Monday night’s 7pm deadline.

The Leeds-born midfielder left Leeds United for City in July 2022 for an initial £42m with £3m in add-ons.

He has played just seven minutes for City this season, coming in one EFL Cup outing.

The 30-year-old, capped 31 times by England, has also had loan spells with West Ham United and Ipswich Town.

An academy graduate at Elland Road, he broke through in 2016/17 and was central to Leeds’ 2019/20 Championship title. Leeds then finished ninth on their Premier League return, while his Euro 2020 performances stood out as England lost the final to Italy at Wembley.

At City he was part of squads that won the Premier League, Champions League, Super Cup, FA Cup and Club World Cup.
