Bayern ran riot in the Südderby against Stuttgart, with four second-half goals complementing Konrad Laimer's early opener.

Harry Kane, who scored a hat-trick after being introduced on the hour mark, told DAZN that Vincent Kompany’s decision to rest him early on was part of a conscious plan following a demanding week.

“It’s something I’m not used to, but I did it a couple of times this season,” he said. “The boss wanted to keep me fresh and save energy. I came on after 60 minutes with a couple of other guys, and we were able to exploit the space and get the goals.”

Bayern had been pushed hard in the DFB-Pokal in midweek, and Kane felt the team’s resilience showed in how they handled a difficult away fixture.

“We had a tough battle in the cup, and today we faced one of the best teams in the league away,” he added. “But we looked stronger in the last half an hour and punished them.”

Urbig reflects on “deserved” win and surprise call to start

Goalkeeper Jonas Urbig, who produced an assured performance after being named in the XI late in the day, echoed Kane’s assessment of Bayern’s late surge.

“We showed a very good performance today,” Urbig said. “It was a tough game up until the 60th minute, but we then subbed on fresh players who did extremely well, found the space, and we deservedly won the game.”

The young shot-stopper revealed he only learned he would be starting shortly before kick-off.

“This morning at 11,” he said when asked when he received the news. “I’m always ready to help the team. We prepare together within our goalkeeping team, and the coach decides who plays.”

Bayern remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga with the winter break approaching, having picked up 37 points out of a possible 39.
