FC Bayern is not only Germany’s most successful club, but has also enjoyed historic success in World Cups. With 79 goals, the record champions hold an impressive record in World Cup history. At the upcoming 2026 World Cup, Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala, and their teammates could further extend Munich’s records.
When it comes to World Cups, most soccer fans first think of national teams rather than clubs. But a look at the historical numbers shows: No club has left such a lasting mark on the World Cup stage as FC Bayern.
According to data from the statistics provider Opta, players from the German record champions have scored a total of 79 goals at World Cups between 1966 and 2022. This puts the Munich club at the top of the all-time club rankings, just ahead of Real Madrid, whose players have scored 78 World Cup goals to date.
The 2014 World Cup in Brazil remains particularly outstanding. At that time, Bayern players scored a total of 18 goals for their respective national teams—a record that remains unmatched at the club level to this day.
Thomas Müller alone contributed five goals to Germany’s World Cup triumph. Mario Götze and Toni Kroos each scored twice. Goals were also added by Arjen Robben, Xherdan Shaqiri, Mario Mandžukić, and Julian Green.
By comparison, FC Barcelona, which also fielded numerous world-class stars at the time, managed only ten goals.
However, the historic goal fest of 2014 was followed by a much quieter phase.
At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, for the first time since 1966, not a single Bayern player found the net. Germany’s early exit in the group stage and Robert Lewandowski’s disappointing tournament performance with Poland prevented further goals from Munich.
The tally was also limited at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Serge Gnabry and Alphonso Davies were the only Bayern pros to score.
At least Davies made history in the process: His goal against Croatia was Canada’s first-ever World Cup goal.

The outlook is much better for the ongoing World Cup in North America.
With Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Luis Díaz, Jamal Musiala, Dayot Upamecano, Joshua Kimmich, and many other national team players, FC Bayern once again boasts one of the strongest World Cup squads of all time.
Kane, in particular, is among the top contenders for the Golden Boot. The Englishman already won this award in 2018 and, following his outstanding season with 61 competitive goals, heads into the tournament brimming with confidence.
Olise could also play a key role for France and confirm his impressive development on the biggest stage in world soccer.
Since the 1982 World Cup, at least one current Bayern player has been in the final of every single tournament. This extraordinary streak has now lasted for eleven tournaments.
Given the numerous top national team players in the Munich squad, the odds are good that a Bayern pro will be in the final at the 2026 World Cup as well.
