Elation for the Three Lions: Following a dramatic victory over co-hosts Mexico in the cauldron of the Azteca Stadium, England are through to the World Cup quarter-finals. Jude Bellingham put England ahead with a brace in the space of 98 seconds. Mexico refused to give up, pulling one back to make it 2-1 before England’s Quansah was shown a straight red card for a heavy challenge. But even down to ten men, Harry Kane kept his cool in a raucous stadium, the Bayern striker confidently converting from the penalty spot to make it 3–1 before Mexico pulled another one back with a penalty of their own. In a dramatic closing phase, neither team could find the net, and it means England will now face Norway at 23:00 CEST on Saturday, after they sent Brazil home with a 2-1 defeat.
