Atlético Madrid are close to finalising a deal for Kang-in Lee, with the long-agreed move now set to be committed to paper.
According to Marca, the announcement was held up by details of his exit from PSG. Following his national team’s World Cup elimination and a post-tournament break, the 25-year-old ends a three-season spell in France with two Champions Leagues and will be able to join Diego Simeone’s pre-season once the move is announced.
The midfielder is already travelling to Madrid. The transfer will trigger FIFA’s solidarity mechanism, which allocates 5 per cent of the fee to his training clubs between ages 12 and 23. Mallorca receive 1.5 per cent and Valencia 3.5 per cent.
The deal is valued at around 40 million euros including add-ons, leaving Valencia to collect roughly 1.4 million euros that were not factored into this summer’s planning.
A significant squad number awaits. Of Atlético’s available shirts, number 7 most appeals to Lee, succeeding Antoine Griezmann.
