Karim Adeyemi’s expected move to FC Barcelona has taken another significant step after the forward was excused from Borussia Dortmund’s pre-season medical tests.

The 24-year-old is now waiting for the final contracts to be prepared and the remaining details to be completed before the transfer can be officially announced.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Dortmund confirmed that Adeyemi and teammate Kjell Watjen did not report for Sunday’s medical examinations because both players had been released from duties while holding talks with other clubs.

That public explanation is important. Adeyemi is no longer simply the subject of negotiations behind closed doors. Dortmund are now openly preparing for the possibility that he will not be part of their squad when pre-season begins.

Barcelona close in on a different attacking weapon

The reported agreement is worth €22 million in fixed payments, with another €7 million linked to sporting objectives and Adeyemi’s contribution to the team’s success.

For Barcelona, that structure limits part of the risk. The full fee would only rise if the German forward performs and helps the club achieve important targets, which would make the additional payments easier to justify.

Adeyemi would also offer Hansi Flick qualities that are not abundant in the current squad. His acceleration, direct running, and ability to attack space could give Barca a more dangerous option during transitions and against defensive lines that push high.

He is not arriving as a guaranteed starter, especially with strong competition across the forward positions. However, his pace could make him a useful tactical alternative when matches demand more vertical football.

The main question around Adeyemi has never been raw talent. His speed and explosiveness are clear, but he must become more consistent in his decision-making and final contribution.

Barcelona should not expect him to solve every attacking problem immediately. The club are still pursuing a centre-forward, while Adeyemi is better viewed as a versatile addition capable of playing across the front line.

Still, the price looks reasonable for a 24-year-old international with experience in the Bundesliga and Champions League. If Flick can sharpen his movement and improve his reliability in the final third, the operation could become excellent business.

Adeyemi is expected to travel to Barcelona next week. With Dortmund already excusing him from pre-season duties, only the paperwork now appears to separate him from becoming Barca’s latest signing.
