Karim Benzema has ruled out a comeback as an OL player but is open to working there after he retires, according to Le Progres.
Speaking on an Instagram live with rapper Rohff, the 2022 Ballon d’Or discussed his future. The 38-year-old plays in Saudi Arabia for Al-Hilal after a winter move from Al-Ittihad.
He was complimentary about Luis Enrique’s PSG, describing a collective that functions regardless of who leads the line, with substitutes maintaining the standard, which explains their strength.
By contrast, he felt Real Madrid struggle to foster that spirit, noting they do not play enough as a team and do not communicate sufficiently.
Looking beyond his playing days, Benzema said he would first like to coach younger players. He expressed misgivings about current youth training, adding that he wants to be close to prospects and share his vision of football.
Benzema presented his Ballon d’Or to Lyon supporters on 11 November 2022 at half-time of OL’s match against OGC Nice.
