Speaking to Sky Germany, Karim Onisiwo (30) spoke of his ambitions of one day playing in the Premier League but if that doesn’t happen, he could imagine extending his contract at Mainz.
“Of course it will remain a dream. You can always dream, even if you’re 30,” said Onisiwo. However, per the report, it’s more likely that the Austrian will extend in Mainz beyond 2024: “I feel very well. I look forward to the talks starting. Of course, I can also imagine signing another contract here and ending my career here.”
Onisiwo joined Mainz in 2016 on a free transfer from SV Mattersburg in Austria and has played 178 games across all competitions, scoring 28 and creating 27. It’s only in the last couple of seasons that the Austria international has become an important player for the Bundesliga club. Under Bo Svensson, Onisiwo has scored 13 and created 16 in 63 games for Mainz, who face Bayern Munich on Saturday.
