Lennart Karl apologised to SV Elversberg supporters after his finger-to-lips celebration during Bayern Munich's 2-1 win provoked anger in the stands.
The winger put the German champions ahead 1-0 just before half-time, then ran off with a shushing gesture. Home fans took it as a taunt and booed him for the rest of the match. According to BuLi News, he addressed the reaction in his post-match interview.
Karl said the celebration came in the heat of the moment and that he was sorry if it was misunderstood, stressing he had not intended it that way.
He added that most supporters recognise such reactions are part of the sport. He then reflected on the finish, noting he was at the far post, the ball slipped through and he was a bit fortunate before applying a good strike.
Vincent Kompany's side now return to München to prepare for next Friday's meeting with 1.FC Union Berlin.
