Karl Darlow heads into the March break as first-choice for Leeds United and Wales, believing regular starts can boost him on international duty. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the goalkeeper expects his club rhythm to help during a pivotal window.

The 35-year-old replaced Lucas Perri earlier this year and has started the last 10 Premier League matches. He joins up after consecutive clean sheets against Crystal Palace and Brentford.

Darlow is one of four Leeds players in the Wales squad, alongside Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu and Dan James. Having debuted fewer than two years ago, he has started Wales’ last four matches under Craig Bellamy. He is expected to remain in goal this month.

He says work with Wales has improved elements of his club game, while playing weekly at Leeds keeps him in rhythm for this camp and, he hopes, in good stead.

Wales are two wins from the World Cup, facing Bosnia & Herzegovina in Cardiff on Thursday, then a potential play-off final against Italy or Northern Ireland, also in the capital. Home advantage could be crucial.

A finals place would mean everything to Darlow, and he aims to contribute his part to the group effort. Leeds still have six players pursuing World Cup spots, with Gabriel Gudmundsson in Sweden’s play-offs and Joel Piroe receiving a first Suriname call-up for deciders against Bolivia and possibly Iraq.
