Karlan Grant to go? 2 West Brom players who face an uncertain end of August

Both Karlan Grant and Caleb Taylor could be loaned out this summer, with the former not exactly a fan's favourite.

West Bromwich Albion will be hoping to keep hold of their regular first-team players as the transfer window comes to a close, but a couple of their highly-rated youngsters could be on their way out of The Hawthorns.

The Baggies are currently working under an EFL-imposed business plan with serious financial concerns following years of over-spending which has left the club on course to break EFL financial rules.

Losses of £11 million in the 2022/23 season mean that West Brom are having to tread carefully in this window, which has also led to them trying to hold on to as many senior players as they can.

Although the likes of Brandon Thomas-Asante, Cédric Kipré and Okay Yokuşlu have left the club in the last couple of months, they have been able to hold onto key stars like Jayson Molumby, who was linked with a move to Millwall.

With such little wiggle room in the first-team, FLW has taken a look at two Baggies players who face an uncertain final week of the transfer window, as they find out whether they will be spend the 2024/25 campaign away from The Hawthorns.

Karlan Grant

26-year-old Karlan Grant has failed to impress since his second season with the Baggies after moving to West Brom in 2020.

The former Huddersfield Town striker scored 18 goals in 44 Championship games in the 2021/22 campaign, but has found the back of the net just 11 more times for both West Brom and while on loan at Cardiff City since.

Although he started the first two games of the new season, the potential incoming of Will Keane could see Grant slip back towards the bench, and with Daryl Dike returning from injury at the end of 2024, there may not even be space for him there.

His recent record in the second tier is particularly poor, scoring just six times in 39 games with the Bluebirds in 2023/24, and he has lacked that cutting edge that he once had so far in the new campaign.

Injuries and lack of squad depth could see him stay until January, but it would not be surprising if Grant is moved on for Keane.

Caleb Taylor

A player who has not quite had the opportunities in the first-team that he may have wanted, and perhaps needed, Caleb Taylor, 21, is an exciting young centre-back who could be sent out on loan in the coming days.

He spent the second half of last season with Bolton Wanderers, but an ankle injury kept him out for the majority of his time in the north-west, allowing him to make just seven appearances.

He had an extremely successful campaign with Cheltenham Town in 2022/23, and another move to the third tier could be the perfect opportunity to get him playing regular football once again.

Taylor has made an appearance for West Brom already this season, playing the full 90 minutes of the Baggies' 2-1 loss to League Two Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup, a game in which he was given the captain's armband.

However, with such strong competition in West Brom's defence, Corberan may send the 21-year-old out once again to pick up invaluable experience.
