Karol Bernal suffers ACL tear, América Femenil blow for Apertura 2026 and Clausura 2027 | OneFootball

América Femenil have been dealt a major setback, with new signing Karol Bernal suffering a ruptured ACL that rules her out for the rest of Apertura 2026 and the whole of Clausura 2027.

Bernal was injured in the last match of the Central American and Caribbean Games while representing Mexico, was substituted and later seen struggling on crutches, according to Americayya.net.

The defender had just been unveiled as América Femenil’s first addition for Apertura 2026 after joining from Rayadas. She was recruited to strengthen left-back, where Mariela Ramos is the only specialist and Jana Gutiérrez has often filled in.

The diagnosis means the injury will keep her sidelined for around 10 months to a year.

It also means she is unlikely to appear in an América shirt until at least the third quarter of next year.

ACL ruptures in the women’s game can require longer recovery, something América have already experienced with Bruna Vilamala, Priscila Da Silva and Aylin Aviléz.
