Katie McCabe scored three and made two as Republic of Ireland beat Albania but Northern Ireland agonisingly lost their UEFA Women’s Nations League tie in Hungary at the death.
Albania did cancel out the first of McCabe’s hat-trick but she had Ireland back ahead well before the break.
A counter-attack from an Albanian corner saw McCabe play in Kyra Carusa to calmly finish, the same two combining again as a cross was headed home.
When the ball was rolled to McCabe from a late free kick, McCabe curled it into the net from 20 yards to complete her treble.
Hungary led Northern Ireland for much of the Group B2 game through Viktoria Szabo’s opener, until Caragh Milligan levelled in the 81st minute.
Dora Sule immediately restored the lead and although Simone Magill made it 2-2 from a penalty in the penultimate minute of the ninety, Hanna Nemeth struck four minutes into stoppage time for the hosts.
Republic of Ireland now have three wins from three in the group and next play the return game in Albania at 5pm on Tuesday 31 October, Northern Ireland hosting Hungary at 7pm the same day – live on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport Website.
