Kauê, 22, has become Corinthians’ youngest goalkeeper to feature in the Copa do Brasil for 21 years. He started Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Barra, from Santa Catarina, in Florianópolis.

According to Meu Timao, the last time the club fielded a younger keeper in the tournament was in 2005. Tiago, then 21, played in a defeat to Figueirense.

Before that, Rubinho appeared aged 21 in 2004, and Ronaldo Giovanelli was the same age in 1989.

Between 2005 and 2026, nine goalkeepers represented Corinthians in the competition. Discounting Kauê, the youngest was Marcelo at 23 in 2007, with Felipe, Ivan, Hugo Souza, Walter, Carlos Miguel, Cássio and Jean Paulo also featuring.

Kauê’s start came after Hugo Souza felt thigh discomfort taking a goal kick late in the draw with Vitória in the Brasileirão. Club tests showed no injury, but indicated a risk of aggravation, treated as a pre-injury similar to an oedema.

The No 1 returned to training on the pitch on Thursday. He remains a doubt for the Vasco da Gama fixture on Sunday 26 at 16:00 in the league.
