The war of words between Javier Tebas and Florentino Perez has intensified after the La Liga president questioned the current situation surrounding Real Madrid and the decision to call for presidential elections.

Tebas has frequently clashed with Florentino over several major issues in recent years, and now, the latest developments at Real Madrid have opened another front in their ongoing rivalry.

Speaking about the upcoming presidential race at the club, Tebas admitted that he was surprised by Florentino’s decision to move towards elections and also addressed the emergence of possible challenger Enrique Riquelme.

“I was certainly surprised that Florentino called for elections. I’m not going to comment on Riquelme.

“I’m not going to say whether I know him or not, because it would be misinterpreted. He has the right to stand, and if he succeeds and has a strong plan, let him present it.”

Questioning Perez’s vision

The La Liga president also suggested there remains uncertainty surrounding Florentino’s long-term vision for the club.

While speaking about the current atmosphere around Real Madrid, he added,

“What we don’t know is what project Florentino wants to pursue, but there’s nothing concrete. I imagine [Enrique] Riquelme will be worried because when you start small, you end up with a lot.”

Tebas then continued his criticism by questioning the lack of clarity around the entire situation.

“The thing is, nobody knows; it’s a surprising situation. Meetings have been announced where they’re going to say.

“Do you know what’s going on? If anyone knows, let me know.”

More on the matter

The La Liga chief also spoke about the importance of having different perspectives within the Real Madrid structure rather than relying entirely on one dominant figure.

According to Tebas, the appearance of another potential candidate has already changed the conversation surrounding the club.

“Whenever there are candidates, there’s a period of debate.

“Riquelme’s announcement has already sparked another debate because it seemed that Real Madrid was just one person’s vision or project, and at least now there will be someone else that we Madrid fans can see.

Continuing his point, Tebas added, “I don’t think it’s bad for Madrid that an alternative has emerged; it’s just that I don’t know any more about the project.”

Attack on Perez

However, the strongest comments arrived when the conversation shifted towards Perez’s previous claims regarding refereeing decisions and league titles.

The Real Madrid president had earlier argued that several league championships had effectively been “stolen” from the club, a statement Tebas strongly rejected.

“No, that’s not how it is; it’s not true. I’m keen to see that 500-page report—they keep adding more pages to it, more and more every day. I want to see it all.”

Tebas acknowledged that attempts to influence refereeing appointments had existed but insisted that the accusations made by Real Madrid had gone too far.

“It’s true that a club tried to influence appointments, but to go from there to saying they’ve been robbed—that’s not true. You can’t deceive people.”

More on Real Madrid TV

Tebas also criticised the messaging coming from Real Madrid’s media channels and club representatives, claiming it has damaged both Spanish football and the refereeing community.

“A narrative has been constructed by Real Madrid TV and the club’s spokespeople that does a great deal of harm to football, to the refereeing community and also to Real Madrid

“It’s a victim mentality that shouldn’t be fostered among Madrid fans.”

The La Liga president additionally confirmed that legal matters involving complaints against Real Madrid Television are continuing to evolve.

“We specifically filed a complaint against Real Madrid Television, and it was dismissed on grounds of freedom of expression, but the administrative court has overturned that decision, and the case is being reopened,” he concluded.
