On the pitch, the Terriers have enjoyed a really solid start to the season, with five wins from their nine games leaving them in fifth place in the table.

They're the second-highest goalscorers in the division behind leaders Bradford City and seem well-placed to challenge for promotion in a division which looks like being far more open this season than it was in 2024-25, when Birmingham City and Wrexham quickly sailed off into the distance at the top of the table.

But success on the pitch is usually directly influenced by what happens away from it, and one piece of news to have come from Huddersfield this week has given the club an excellent opportunity to grow in a way that could benefit not only the club, but also the entire town.

It was announced on Thursday by the club that the future of the newly-named Accu Stadium had been secured, with an agreement reached between Town, Kirklees Council and Rugby League outfit Huddersfield Giants, with the football team set to take 100 per cent ownership.

The aforementioned Nagle has reacted to the news that his club are to take full control of the stadium - a move which could significantly improve the club's commercial position.

In a statement posted to the club's official website, Nagle said: "Having the ability to shape the future of our Club’s home is hugely important to us", and that, "plans are already in place and work is ongoing on evolving and future-proofing the stadium and the surrounding site, whilst never losing sight of its primary status as the proud and long-term home of Huddersfield Town Football Club."

These feelings were echoed by CEO Jake Edwards, who added: "We want this to be a home to be proud of for our Club, and have that pride resonate with our staff," and that, "We have a hugely exciting, bright future ahead of us both on and off the pitch, and today is an important milestone on that journey."

The Kirklees Stadium, which has had various sponsors' names over the years, was one of the most distinctive of the new wave of grounds that were built in the early 1990's following The Taylor Report.

The stadium's innovative design earned it the 1995 Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Building of the Year Award for 1995. It was the first sports stadium of any sort to have done so and remains the only one to have done so to this day.

It's also home to the Huddersfield Giants rugby league team. The previous ownership status of the stadium saw Kirklees Metropolitan Council and Huddersfield Town FC holding a 40% share in it each, with Huddersfield Giants holding the other 20%.

The opportunity that it presents Huddersfield Town is a very big one indeed.

The deal also includes 53 acres of land surrounding the stadium which could be redeveloped to the financial benefit of the club, and in League One, where Huddersfield are currently stationed, these revenues are critically important, with television money being relatively meagre.

Signing this contract - a leasehold lasting 300 years - might not be as glamorous as the unveiling of a new player, but for the medium to long-term future of the club, it could be the most significant signing that Huddersfield Town make for years to come.
