The former Hammer has been speaking about Bowen's decision to stay at the London Stadium.

While West Ham's summer has yet to really get going, it already feels as though they have a new signing after Jarrod Bowen committed his future to the club.

Understandably, the winger was in demand following the Hammers' relegation from the Premier League, with a host of big clubs reportedly keen to land him.

However, he has put pen to paper on a revised deal at the London Stadium, which contains a release clause should the club fail to achieve promotion from the Championship next season.

Former Hammer Kevin Nolan knows all about getting relegated as captain of a big English club, and he has shared why he thinks the 29-year-old has decided to stay in East London.

Possessing a player of Bowen's quality in the Championship is a huge plus for West Ham as they embark on what will be a challenging campaign in a division packed with clubs vying for promotion.

The winger has grown into a consistent threat for the Irons and now has an even stronger bond with the club, given he has married Dani Dyer.

While he may have had options on the table to leave, he has opted to stay and Nolan, who endured a similar experience with Newcastle United, has been explaining why Bowen came to the decision he did.

The 44-year-old suffered the same fate with the Magpies, who he captained, in 2009 but remained at St James' Park and guided them back to the Premier League a year later.

"I think he's done it because he's settled as well. He's the captain; I think he probably feels a bit of responsibility, a bit similar to how I felt when I was at Newcastle."

What to expect from Bowen in the Championship

The Championship is primed to stage some stellar names next season with Raul Jimenez, Kieran Trippier and Bowen among those who will certainly be on show.

That should mean that the quality of the league is enhanced and there is every reason why more familiar names may follow in the coming month or so.

Bowen has Championship, making a name for himself with Hull City, notching a ridiculous 52 goals and 12 assists in three seasons.

Last term, the winger totalled nine goals and 11 assists for a side that was relegated and in his last three campaigns with West Ham he has scored 38 goals and assisted 27 times.

Considering that he was left at home by Thomas Tuchel this summer, he has had time to rest, but most importantly, he has a point to prove, as he would have been gutted to miss out on the World Cup.

At 29, he still has time to play for England in another major tournament and if he can guide the Hammers back to the Premier League next season, then he will be back in Tuchel's thinking.

It cannot be underestimated how important Bowen will be for Nuno Espírito Santo next term and, although there is much to do in the transfer market, he has all the tools to fire the club back to the top table.
