After four years in Wolfsburg, Kevin Paredes has found his next club. The US international joined Eredivisie side FC Utrecht on a free transfer, signing a one-year deal with an option for another two. Paredes was limited to just one start in the Bundesliga this season as Wolfsburg was relegated.

Paredes signed for Wolfsburg in January 2022 for a reported €6.5 million from MLS side DC United. Paredes, then 18, barely played in his first season, but became a regular off the bench the following season. In 2024, Paredes became a regular starter and was rewarded with his first appearance for the US national team.

However, injury problems soon followed. Paredes made just two appearances in the 2024/25 season, starting both and recording an assist as foot and hamstring injuries kept him sidelined. This season, he was once again forced to undergo surgery on the same foot and dealt with various injuries, which again limited his impact.

Paredes will now hope to rediscover his form in the Netherlands after two frustrating seasons with Wolfsburg. He joins an Utrecht side that has its fair share of Bundesliga expats, including former Borussia Dortmund striker Sébastien Haller and former Schalke 04 talent Can Bozdoğan.

The American is just one of a host of departures that VfL Wolfsburg have to deal with after relegation to the 2. Bundesliga. Among the big names to depart are Patrick Wimmer, who signed for TSG Hoffenheim, and Jonas Wind, who, like Paredes, left upon the expiration of his contract.
