Kevin Phillips: Real Madrid talk for Trai Hume a dream but unlikely

Kevin Phillips believes speculation linking Sunderland full-back Trai Hume with Real Madrid is flattering and would be a dream, but he views a move as unlikely.

According to Sunderland Echo, recent reports in Spain have suggested Hume is among right-sided options the La Liga giants are monitoring as they weigh low-cost cover and competition for ex-Liverpool man Trent Alexander-Arnold.

While on Northern Ireland duty last month, Hume said he had seen the chatter but had not thought much about it.

Phillips said simply being mentioned alongside Real Madrid or Barcelona is special for any player, though he doubts the defender will be departing Wearside in the near future.

He added that Hume is not at a top four club, which makes the link stand out, praised his season, and said that if it did happen it would be an unbelievable dream, while stressing he is eager to watch him next for Sunderland and on the European stage.
