Kevin Trapp has ruled out international retirement, saying he is still targeting a place in Jürgen Klopp’s Germany squad.

According to BuLi News, he remains open to a recall after Klopp used his first press conference as national coach to invite all contenders.

"You never really close this book (national team call)," said Trapp while in Germany for Paris FC’s friendly at Mainz, which ended 4-0. He added that last season was one of his best and that if he can build on it, and the team keep playing successfully, they would have to see what comes next.

Before taking the Germany job, Klopp was Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull. Red Bull GmbH holds a reported 10.6% stake in Paris FC, and he attended their training sessions and games on multiple occasions in that role.

"We all know what type of coach Jürgen Klopp is. He can take people with him, capture them and give energy. He was successful everywhere as a coach," Trapp said.

"I feel incredibly fit physically and mentally even at 36. I still have a contract until the end of next season. I'm fully focused on that. We’ll see what might happen after that."

Trapp was initially set to understudy youngster Obed Nkambadio at the then newly promoted Paris FC before winning the starting spot. He made nine Germany appearances between 2017 and 2023 and was named in squads for 74 games in total.
