Sunderland enter the new Premier League season with a largely unchanged squad, adding only Thomas Meunier on a free. Regis Le Bris still has choices to make before the trip to Ipswich Town on August 22nd.
Sunderland Echo notes that most positions are settled after last term, yet the left wing remains open. Enzo Le Fée has surely secured a central role, leaving four orthodox options out wide, with Chemsdine Talbi and Nilson Angulo seemingly leading the race.
Simon Adingra continues to be linked with a departure, while Romaine Mundle is pushing to stay involved over the rest of pre-season. Talbi and Angulo impressed at their respective World Cups and have shown flashes since returning, but neither has fully nailed the shirt. On balance, Talbi may shade it given last season’s crucial goals.
On the right, Sunderland are seeking reinforcements. Bertrand Traore has gone and Jocelin Ta Bi is still short of senior minutes, leaving that side light. Trai Hume has been a dependable hybrid option, though a more orthodox attacker feels necessary before the window closes.
Until a new arrival lands, Hume would be expected to keep his place. If a winger does come in, Le Bris must decide whether to change quickly or back continuity. That call may depend on any incoming winger.
