Khabib Nurmagomedov, a devoted Real Madrid supporter and former UFC star, offered public support to Xabi Alonso on Tuesday, a day after the Spaniard was sacked by the club.
The former lightweight champion said in a post that he was unhappy with the decision and blamed the attitude of the Real Madrid players, responding to Alonso’s own message.
He lamented a lack of loyalty, noting that a year ago the club were pleading with Alonso, and said the coach had now been dismissed because of spoilt children, before declaring Alonso the best.
Nurmagomedov, 37, held the UFC lightweight title from 2018 to 2021, is considered a legend of the organisation, and has long followed Real Madrid.
Real Madrid parted company with Alonso, who was appointed last summer, and the Spanish runners-up named Alvaro Arbeloa, a former player and previously Castilla coach, as his replacement.
