Pep Guardiola has left Manchester City after 10 seasons and 20 titles, prompting Khaldoon al-Mubarak to reflect on their relationship and what comes next.

"Over these 10 years there were many highs and lows. In the bad moments he resigned 100 times," said the City chairman, speaking to the club's media.

"When he says he is resigning, it does not mean he is resigning. You should not take it seriously, you have to frame him," al-Mubarak added. "At some point, it was going to be real." That point arrived in the 2025-26 season, when the end of the partnership was confirmed for season's end.

"I am a bit his shrink," the chairman admitted, saying he helped Guardiola through the tougher spells. The Spaniard still lifted both domestic cups in his final campaign.

He praised Guardiola's work, said City would bring "the best coach possible for this club" and that an announcement would come "very soon". The change is expected to usher in a new cycle at City, with possible exits for Bernardo Silva and John Stones, and Enzo Maresca is tipped to succeed Guardiola.
