Kiat Lim has put Nou Mestalla at the core of Valencia’s future, pitching the build as the club’s economic engine while the city aims to stage 2030 World Cup games.
"Valencia will have the most modern stadium in Spanish football for that World Cup, a 70,044-seater," Rafael Louzán said recently on El Larguero on Cadena SER.
Lim has handed sporting control to Ron Gourlay and Carlos Corberán, and tied the finances to the stadium, which he visited on Wednesday before returning home. Work has progressed steadily since construction resumed in January 2025.
At the last shareholders’ meeting he said the project would drive the club’s income and help ease Financial Fair Play constraints. A report by Legends, hired to advise on stadium hospitality, projects 81 million euros a year, roughly triple today’s 26 million from stadium-linked business.
The move is pencilled in for the 2027-28 season. FIFA officials are planning an unofficial visit in the coming months, and with Málaga and A Coruña out of contention, interest is mutual. Host city confirmation is expected in November, once the 2026 World Cup cycle closes and as FIFA opens a permanent office in Madrid.
