At home in Munich, FC Bayern has established its exercise promotion programme ‘ZAM AKTIV’ at several schools, and during the club’s Audi Summer Tour, the German champions also took the opportunity to motivate girls and boys to take part in sports. At a specially organised training session with first-team duo Hiroki Ito and Arijon Ibrahimović as well as club legend Giovane Élber, president Herbert Hainer encouraged 40 children aged 8 to 12, selected by the Football Association of Hong Kong (HKFA) and the orphan children’s charity Po Leung Kuk (PLK) to always stay on the ball and active.

Sport offers a space “in which all children have the same chances – irrespective of ethnicity, ability or social background”, explained the FCB president in an address to the children as well as Charles Cheung, general secretary of the HKFA, who was in attendance. “Sport brings people together and creates friendships. You learn a lot of things from it that are important for life: team spirit, respect and confidence. And those who believe in themselves will follow their path.”

Two international players from the HKFA were also involved in the organisation and implementation of the session. Director Johnny Woo, along with PLK chairwoman Dr Jenny Y. C. Tam, thanked the German champions for the valuable visit. “The children will pursue their paths with even more commitment now,” said Woo. “The PLK has been involved in children’s education for over 148 years, and this visit from FC Bayern by its president, players and legends is a very special day in the history of our project,” added Dr Tam. “It will have a big impact – for the kids here and beyond.”
