Celtic’s search for a new manager following Brendan Rodgers’ dramatic resignation has already begun, with Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna emerging as one of the frontrunners to take charge at Parkhead, according to reports from Sky Sports.

McKenna, 39, has earned widespread acclaim for his work at Ipswich, guiding the club to back-to-back promotions and their first Premier League season in over two decades. Although the Tractor Boys were relegated last term, McKenna’s progressive style and calm authority have seen him linked with high-profile vacancies at Manchester United, Chelsea, and Brighton. His growing reputation as one of Britain’s brightest young coaches makes him a compelling candidate for Celtic’s next era.

Celtic’s interim leadership remains in the hands of Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney, with the club facing Falkirk on Wednesday before a high-stakes Old Firm League Cup semi-final against Rangers on Sunday. O’Neill, speaking about his temporary return, suggested the board will be seeking a “young manager with proven ability,” a description that fits McKenna perfectly.

However, the pull of a familiar face remains strong. Ange Postecoglou, the man who delivered a domestic treble before departing for Tottenham in 2023, has also been linked with a sensational return. Out of work following a short-lived spell at Nottingham Forest, the Australian remains a fan favourite.

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes Postecoglou would be a “smart, obvious choice,” citing his attacking philosophy and popularity among supporters.
