Kieran Tierney: We'll do everything we can to try and seal a Double

Kieran Tierney admits last weekend’s dramatic title triumph is still sinking in, but with a Scottish Cup final on the horizon, the Celtic defender insists the squad’s focus has already switched firmly towards Hampden and the chance to clinch the Double.

The Hoops sealed the Premiership title in unforgettable fashion at Celtic Park last Saturday, with late goals from Daizen Maeda and Callum Osmand sealing a stunning title triumph.

For Tierney, it marked his fifth league title as a Celtic player, and speaking to Celtic TV ahead of this weekend’s Scottish Cup Final against Dunfermline Athletic, he admitted this latest success stands above the rest.

“It’s not taking anything away from the others and how hard they were to achieve," he said, "but this one had been the hardest.

'The character we showed and the belief was incredible to come back and win it in dramatic style like that, which is why it’s the top one for me.'

And the defender was also quick to highlight the influence of captain Callum McGregor, praising the skipper’s leadership throughout a challenging campaign.

“For me, he's probably the main person,” Tierney said. “He's the person that’s helped us the most as a team and as a changing room.

“I think as a captain it can be a really hard job. If you’re 10 points clear, it maybe makes your job easier, but when you’re nine points behind, that’s when he showed his qualities.

“He still believed from the lowest of the low where we were. He kept us all going.

"That’s why I said after the game that he deserves every bit of this because he carried us, he carried the changing room and helped us so much.”

With the league title secured, attention now turns to the Scottish Cup Final against Dunfermline Athletic, and Tierney says the motivation within the squad remains as strong as ever heading into Saturday’s showdown at Hampden.

“When I came back here, one of the things I got asked was what my ambitions were, and it was to keep Celtic successful," he said.

'These last few years have been really good for Celtic with the trophies they’ve won and the success they’ve had, so I just want to keep continuing that.'

"This is a massive chance for that, to get another trophy."

Saturday’s final also carries an added storyline with former Celtic manager Neil Lennon leading Dunfermline Athletic at Hampden.

Tierney worked under Lennon during the 2019/20 season and spoke warmly of his former manager ahead of the encounter.

“I really enjoyed my time with Neil Lennon because he cared so much for the club," he said.
