Kieran Trippier’s move to Wolves takes him back to the Championship, the stage on which he first made his name.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the right-back made 174 Championship appearances for Barnsley then Burnley, the foundation for a career defined by hard-earned progress.
A product of Manchester City’s academy, he won the 2008 FA Youth Cup alongside Ben Mee and Daniel Sturridge, before joining Burnley permanently in 2012 after loans with Barnsley and the Clarets. Four full seasons in the second tier preceded promotion in 2014. He debuted in the Premier League, then moved to Tottenham for £3.5 million after Burnley’s relegation.
In north London he started only 11 league matches across two seasons with Kyle Walker first choice, but after Walker’s departure he became a regular in a side that finished third. That summer he started six times for England at the World Cup, scoring a free-kick against Croatia, and later helped them reach consecutive European Championship finals.
Tottenham reached the 2019 Champions League final, losing 2-0 to Liverpool in Madrid. Soon after, he joined Atletico for £20 million, making 83 appearances across two and a half seasons and winning the league title in 2021, the first major honour of his career.
He returned to the Premier League in January 2022 with a £12 million move to Newcastle as Eddie Howe’s first signing. Arriving with the club in the relegation zone, he helped them survive, then finish fourth the following season to reach the Champions League. Highlights include his cross for Dan Burn’s opener in the 2025 League Cup final as Newcastle beat Liverpool to end a 70-year wait. Howe has praised his consistency, leadership and influence. Wolves will hope for similar impact.
