Kieran Trippier has joined Wolves on a free transfer as their first summer signing, and Edwards has suggested he can lead without the captain's armband.
The full-back agreed terms after running down his Newcastle United contract. Speaking on the club's channels, Edwards said the move adds valuable experience and has prompted discussion over the captaincy.
He emphasised the Championship is different, noting Trippier has played at this level and knows English football well. Edwards highlighted his leadership, daily standards and dressing-room influence, having heard similar from contacts at Newcastle.
Edwards added that the armband is not important to Trippier, yet he will be a captain for Wolves day to day and on matchdays. Securing that profile early in the window was a clear aim.
After signing, Trippier described the move as a new chapter he is ready for, looking forward to working with the team, giving his all, and meeting supporters at Molineux.
Messages of support followed, with former Wolves captain Conor Coady welcoming the switch and calling Wolves a top club filled with top people. Sean Dyche, who managed Trippier at Burnley, also called it a brilliant move for Wolves.
