Kilmarnock Team News

Djenairo Daniels, the 23-year-old striker, who has impressed since his summer arrival from Cork City, has already made his mark with two goals in four appearances and is expected to lead the line at Rugby Park.

New signing James Brown, who joined on a short-term deal until January, adds depth to Kettlewell’s squad. The manager has confirmed that Scott Tiffoney remains sidelined with injury and will miss the fixture.

Celtic Team News

Brendan Rodgers faces a defensive crisis at right-back with both Alistair Johnston and Anthony Ralston ruled out through injury. Johnston is sidelined for three months with a hamstring injury sustained against Kairat Almaty, while Ralston withdrew from Scotland duty with a knock picked up in the Old Firm derby.

Nineteen-year-old Colby Donovan is expected to step in at right-back after a potential loan move to Dundee was cancelled due to the injury crisis. Auston Trusty remains out.

Kieran Tierney is also a doubt after pulling out of Scotland duty with a contact injury, though it’s not considered serious. The left-back has been managed carefully this season, yet to complete 90 minutes in any fixture.

Form

Kilmarnock

Stuart Kettlewell’s side have made an unbeaten start to the season with four draws from four league fixtures. Despite remaining winless, Killie have shown resilience and determination, particularly in their recent 2-2 draw at Motherwell where Daniels and George Stanger found the net.

The Rugby Park side has advanced to the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals, demonstrating its competitive spirit across all competitions. Kettlewell has praised his team’s character while acknowledging they need to improve ball retention and control games for longer periods.

Alistair Johnston is still sidelined with a hamstring injury, Auston Trusty is recovering from his foot injury and is expected to be fit by the end of September, and Jota is also out until January at least because of his cruciate ligament injury.

Celtic

Celtic top the Scottish Premiership table with 10 points from four matches, remaining unbeaten and yet to concede a goal in league action. However, their recent 0-0 draw with Rangers at Ibrox highlighted ongoing concerns about their attacking fluency.

The Hoops failed to secure Champions League qualification and struggled in their European campaign, failing to reach the main stage after disappointing performances.

Predicted Lineups

Kilmarnock: Stryjek; Stanger, Mayo, Deas, Thompson; Lyons, Watson, Polworth; Brannan, Daniels, Anderson.

Celtic: Schmeichel; Donovan, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Tierney; Engels, McGregor; Maeda, Hatate, Nygren; Balikwisha.
