Middlesbrough have announced the appointment of former Hammarby manager Kim Hellberg with the club currently second in the league.

Boro had been without a manager after Rob Edwards joined Wolverhampton Wanderers after just 15 games in charge. Now the Championship side have appointed Swedish head coach Kim Hellberg, who had previously been linked with the Swansea City job.

"I'm delighted to have been appointed as Boro's head coach and I'm very proud to be here," the 37-year-old said about his new role.

"A lot of things make Boro the perfect choice for me. The way they play and want to play, together with the crowd, suits me and how I want to work.

"I want us to play quick and aggressive football, and to try to win the ball as quickly as possible if we don't have it. I want us to be quick on goal and create a lot of chances.

"I've been very impressed with the players and how they've worked so far this season, and I'm looking forward to getting to work with them."

Hellberg will be looking to get the second-place team back to consistent ways. Middlesbrough had started the season in excellent form but have won just one of their last five games in the Championship ahead of Tuesday evening's key clash against leaders Coventry City.
