The disappointment after the semi-final exit against Paris Saint-Germain was huge at FC Bayern. Joshua Kimmich was deeply disappointed after the 1-1 draw in the second leg against the defending champions, but at the same time the midfield boss surprised everyone with a remarkably positive assessment of the season and the current team
For Joshua Kimmich, the decisive difference against PSG lay above all in the small moments of the game. In particular, the early goal by Ousmane Dembélé once again caused Bayern major problems. „We concede an early goal again. We then go behind again. That has happened to us very, very often in recent weeks,“ explained Kimmich in the Mixed Zone
That’s extremely difficult, especially against a team like PSG, „especially with the quick transition players they have. Of course, you have to find the balance. You can’t risk everything completely,“ the 30-year-old analyzed
Nevertheless, Kimmich did not believe his team were clearly inferior: „I thought we got a decent grip on it, but still made too many simple mistakes,“ said the Bayern professional
It was particularly bitter that the equalizer came too late. „We could definitely have equalized in the first half. Then it might have been a bit more open in the second half, a bit more exciting,“ explained Kimmich. „As it was, it took us a very, very long time to equalize. Then it was too late.“
Despite the elimination, Kimmich drew a remarkably positive overall conclusion about the current season – and caused quite a stir with one statement in particular. „In eleven years at Bayern, this has been the strongest season we’ve played so far,“ the midfield boss explained surprisingly clearly
Kimmich even put the treble season in the shade: „Stronger than the treble season back then, when we actually didn’t play good soccer for half a year and then played very good soccer for the second half or three quarters of the year,“ said the international
He was particularly impressed by the consistency and the atmosphere within the team. „I’ve rarely experienced that with a squad like that in the dressing room, which is why it’s all the more bitter that we were knocked out today,“ explained Kimmich
The 30-year-old also sees enormous sporting potential in the team: „At least I’m sitting there in the dressing room and have the feeling that you can still win the Champions League with this team,“ he emphasized

That’s why the semi-final exit shouldn’t change the path we’ve taken: „I don’t think it’s going to throw us off course in any way,“ said Kimmich
His confidence in coach Vincent Kompany and the entire team is particularly high. „It definitely gives me confidence. Confidence in the team, confidence in the coach, in our staff. We’re on the right path,“ explained the midfielder
At the same time, Kimmich naturally still sees room for improvement – especially defensively. „Of course we have to chalk it up to the fact that we are often behind, that we concede so many goals,“ he said openly
Nevertheless, the basic idea of the game is not to be changed. „That doesn’t mean we’re going to throw the entire style of play overboard, but we will continue to improve and adapt certain things,“ announced Kimmich
Despite the bitter elimination, the Bayern star sent out a clear message: FC Bayern still firmly believe they can win the Champions League with Vincent Kompany and this team in the future.
