Joshua Kimmich has downplayed Germany's prospects, saying they are not among the top favourites for this summer's World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. According to BuLi News, the Germany captain said recent failures had shaped external expectations.
The 31-year-old pointed to group-stage exits in 2018 and 2022 as the backdrop to how the team are viewed, speaking at a press conference on Tuesday.
He stressed that once the tournament begins, what happened four or eight years ago would not matter, and he wants maximum commitment from his team-mates.
Kimmich said Germany depend on having everyone fit, available and in form, adding that keeping all players on board could help the squad grow closer.
Germany will face Curaçao, Côte d’Ivoire and Ecuador in the group stage. For now, attention turns to friendlies against Switzerland and Ghana.
