FC Porto defender Kiwior suffered a muscle injury against Sporting in round 21 of the I Liga. He is expected to miss the next matches, with a lay-off of two to three weeks, according to O Jogo.

He felt a twinge and was withdrawn on 63 minutes with pain in his right thigh, and tests the following day detected a muscle problem, though the club did not disclose its extent.

That timeline rules him out of Sunday’s trip to Choupana and the subsequent home game with Rio Ave. If recovery goes well, he could face Arouca at the end of February and will be available for the Taça de Portugal semi-final first leg at Alvalade.

Kiwior chose not to risk continuing, a decision Farioli said likely averted a worse issue. He had already managed the Pole’s workload at Rio Maior, where he kept him on the bench amid a season of increased minutes and positional rotation.

In central defence, Thiago Silva, 41, replaced him in the clássico and will start against Nacional, with young Croatian Prpic in reserve.

Samu sustained the most serious injury from the match. Martim Fernandes also departed early with recurring plantar fasciitis in his right foot and will focus on treatment and gym work, with hopes he travels to Madeira as Moura is suspended and Zaidu has not featured for some time.
