Borussia Mönchengladbach have had a disastrous start to the season, sitting at the bottom of the Bundesliga table with just two points from five matches.

If Die Fohlen were to be relegated, it would likely mean saying goodbye to their currently injured captain, Tim Kleindienst.

In an interview with Bild, the Germany international admitted he would probably leave in the event of relegation.

However, he also emphasized that he doesn't expect Gladbach to drop out of the Bundesliga.

“If you assume you want to continue playing for the national team, the 2. Bundesliga is completely out of the question,” Kleindienst said.

“But I don’t believe we will have anything to do with the 2. Bundesliga after this season.”

Kleindienst has yet to play this season due to a knee injury, with a return to action likely in November.

“I’m doing well. I’m making progress. But you never know how the body will react after an operation,” the striker recently told Welt, stressing that he does not want to rush his comeback.

“It should be approached professionally and not depend on the team’s sporting situation. There’s no quick fix. That could even be counterproductive.”
