Jürgen Klopp has hailed Philipp Treu’s seamless start with Germany, noting the Freiburg right-back ended up playing 90 minutes in three of the four games despite that not being the original plan.

“We hadn’t planned for him to play three games,” Klopp said. “You didn’t notice that a newcomer was playing. He did a great job. He was incredibly bold. He is very advanced in our attacking movements. Watching him was great fun.” The interview was published by the German Football Association.

Treu was initially named in the first of two squads selected by Klopp, then was among a small group permitted to remain at the camp when most of the first squad departed.

The Freiburg defender was arguably among the standout debutants of the international break.

Treu will now hope for another call-up in November, when Klopp’s squad comes together again.
