Roma have been linked to Jurgen Klopp in the last few days, but his agent Mark Kosicke intervened to silence the buzz after it had reached fever-pitch level. He dismissed it to WinWinAllSports (via Fantacalcio).
“The rumours about Klopp becoming the new Roma coach aren’t true.”
The news started circulating among the fans last week. An unnamed American source close to the Friedkin family stoked them talking to Adnkronos (via Mediaset).
“It’s not an impossible option. It’d be his choice. He’d break the mold and restore the uncontrollable enthusiasm that followed José Mourinho’s hiring. I don’t know if they’ll manage, but I have no doubt they are attempting to.”
Per La Repubblica, Roma would have to empty their coffers as Klopp makes €15M per year in his current role as head of football for the Red Bull group. The Giallorossi are in touch with Gian Piero Gasperini, who asks for €5M wages. He hinted at his Atalanta exit talking to Sky.
“The renewal isn’t crucial, as I’m already under contract. However, football matters, and, unlike in past years, it won’t be easy to replicate what we achieved this season. It shouldn’t be taken for granted, and it worries me.”
According to La Stampa, the capital club were fairly confident about landing the former Liverpool boss, but eventually denied it too.
It’s a long-shot, but it wouldn’t be surprising if they are indeed trying, or tried, as their owners have always been bold when they had the time and opportunity to do so. Their rumored wish list is a tad underwhelming from that standpoint, and their moves have often come from out of nowhere.
