CD Castellón’s progress shows in the top flight, with four recent alumni in Primera this season, a rarity in recent times.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the Voulgaris-era quartet comprises Giorgi Kochorashvili at Sevilla, Álex Calatrava at Espanyol, Jozhua Vertrouwd at Rayo Vallecano and Beñat Gerenabarrena at Athletic, the level Castellón aspire to reach.
Calatrava made his top-flight debut for Espanyol last matchday. On Friday, Vertrouwd started at left-back for Rayo, having been identified by Castellón and later sold for almost one million.
Gerenabarrena has earned a first-team squad number at Athletic after maintaining the competitive edge he showed on loan at Castellón during pre-season. He is in the first squad list and could make his Primera debut against Sevilla this afternoon at 17.00.
Kochorashvili has just joined Sevilla and travelled with the squad, though it may be too soon for him to play. Castellón supporters following the national scene already backed Calatrava from afar on his debut and now have more to watch.
