FC Koln midfielder Max Meyer insists he has no regrets over his time with Crystal Palace.
After two years with Palace, he was released from his contract in January and joined Koln as a free agent.
The former Schalke star told BILD: “I wouldn't say a mistake, I learned a lot there. Of course the last three or four months have not been nice. I had my assignments for the first year and a half. I played over 60 games in total.
“I'm coming to a new country, the culture is different, the league is physically very strong, many teams are playing against relegation. I was the only one on the team who spoke German and my English wasn't good.
"It wasn't like in the Bundesliga, where the clubs organise a language teacher. I did that alone and learned it with a language program on my cell phone."
Meyer added: "In the time when you are not playing, you realise that money is not the most important thing. There is no substitute for the unbelievably great feeling of being on the pitch at the weekend. This is not an empty phrase, it really is. I gave up a lot of money to come to Cologne and have fun playing football."
