Kompany praises “calm” Bayern performance | OneFootball

The mood in the Bayern camp was a positive one following the result, with Harry Kane and Tom Bischof both praising their side’s performance. Head coach Vincent Kompany echoed those sentiments after the final whistle.

As was the case in recent Bundesliga victories over VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund, Bayern once again failed to keep a clean sheet. However, Kompany was largely satisfied with what he saw from his team in Osnabrück.

Speaking to ARD after the game, the Belgian said:

“Yes, it went well, but the first goal was insane. The way the goal was scored, that was just incredible. It really created a great atmosphere, especially in the first ten minutes. But we stayed calm. And above all, we played a solid second half. We knew beforehand that it wouldn’t be easy.”

Kompany was reluctant to place the blame for the goal solely on his central defenders, instead praising Osnabrück for the quality of their play in the challenge.

“I told them at halftime that you can’t easily win challenges in the air here, but rather when the ball is in play. Osnabrück does that so often, or teams from lower leagues. Their strikers are very good in that area, and you simply have to acknowledge that they did well,” Kompany explained.

The Bayern coach was otherwise pleased with his team’s performance, particularly the way they exploited the spaces available to them.

“We consistently found spaces. These spaces became larger later on, creating opportunities for us. A 4-1 away win in the cup against a compact opponent is quite alright. Winning like that is good. Now we move on.”

For Kompany, the priority is now to ensure that the fundamentals of Bayern’s game remain solid as the season progresses.

“We have good phases in our play where you can see that we’re already quite well-coordinated. Our goal threat is good, the intensity is good, but maintaining that level of performance isn’t easy. If that works even better, then we can talk about the details,” the Belgian concluded.
