Jules Kounde’s impressive brace in the second half inspired Barcelona to a stunning 2-1 comeback win against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League.
Hosting their first European game at Spotify Camp Nou in over two years, Barca endured the worst possible start, with Frankfurt drawing blood in the 21st minute.
Nathaniel Brown initiated a brilliant turnover to catch Barca off guard before setting up Ansgar Knauff.
The German visitors were threatening with their counterattacks in the first half, while Barca struggled to gain any sort of momentum.
However, the Catalan giants broke the shackles quickly after the break when Jules Kounde headed home the equaliser off Marcus Rashford’s pinpoint cross.
The French defender netted his second header in no time to turn the game on its head, with Lamine Yamal being the provider this time.
Kounde’s form has been heavily scrutinised this season, but this emphatic performance will boost his morale heading into the decisive half of the campaign.
It was far from a perfect performance from the La Liga champions, but manager Hansi Flick will be relieved to get three points following a lacklustre performance against Chelsea.
The midfield partnership of Pedri and Eric Garcia was once again outstanding and key to the victory.
Besides their usual passing brilliance, the Spanish duo’s excellent off-ball work rate made a huge difference.
They combinedly won 15 duels, won four tackles and made seven recoveries.
Meanwhile, Pedri delivered 23 passes into the final third, while Garcia made 30. Both combinedly created three big chances.
Garcia is proving to be a great tactical weapon for Flick due to his excellent versatility. The German gaffer’s decision to start the Spaniard over Frenkie de Jong in the defensive midfield role has paid dividends.
Following the setback against Chelsea, Barca have now won four straight games in all competitions.
The victory against Frankfurt will boost their UCL knock-out hopes. They are 14th in the table with 10 points.
