As confirmed by Adi Hutter last week, Denis Zakaria is set to miss two months of competition after suffering an adductor injury in training, the day before AS Monaco’s UEFA Champions League opener against Club Brugge.
The Swiss international, L’Équipe understands, will be replaced in Monaco’s Champions League squad by Krépin Diatta, as permitted by a new rule introduced by UEFA this season, which allows injured players to be replaced in the squad. The rule states that the player who comes in to replace the injured player can then be taken back out when the player’s injury heals.
As a result, Diatta is set to be brought in, with Zakaria, for now, being dropped from the squad. The Senegalese player came off the bench against FC Metz over the weekend. He took the place at right-back, allowing Jordan Teze to play in midfield, where Monaco are hamstrung by a number of absences.
