At Eintracht Frankfurt's press conference today ahead of their Champions League trip to face Qarabag FK midweek, Markus Krösche revealed why Dino Toppmöller was sacked on Sunday.
“First of all, I would like to thank Dino Toppmöller and his coaching staff. They have done outstanding work here for two and a half years. Dino has always put Eintracht first.
“He has developed players individually and celebrated an extraordinary success with direct Champions League qualification last season. That will always connect us.
“We recently came to the conclusion that we had to part ways because the development in recent weeks and months has not been as we had envisioned.
“We have conceded far too many goals, usually following a certain pattern. We were not convinced that the coaching staff could find solutions in this area," Krösche explained.
The Hessen club's sporting director showed an element of remorse towards the decision and revealed who will temporarily man the dugout in their upcoming game in Azerbaijan.
“This was, of course, a difficult decision. But we have to take responsibility. For the entire club, the entire organization. Unfortunately, that sometimes comes at the expense of individual lives, even if it isn't easy.
“Dennis Schmitt, Alex Meier and Jan Fießer will initially take over. With this team we want to win in Baku and create a good starting position for the Tottenham game at home,” he added.
